Welcome to Cleveland Aquarium
An inaugural special event will be held on Thursday, December 3, at Lilly Pulitzer at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst. Board Chairman Tim Ryan and his wife Heather are co-chairing the event.
The day will feature lots of shopping among the fixtures featuring Lilly Pulitzer’s 2009 Resort Collection inspired by the sea, limited edition handmade Christmas ornaments, and a wide variety of personal gifts including stationery and signature fragrances. Ten percent of the store’s sales that day (from 10 am to 9 pm) will be donated to the Cleveland Aquarium. Supporters are encouraged to browse and pre-shop starting Saturday, November 28.
The Viking Store at Legacy Village will cater the event and has already created a signature cocktail – the “Seatini” – to be served at the social gathering from 5 – 8 pm.
The Cleveland Aquarium is designed to be a waterfront attraction that will exhibit fish and other aquatic life from around the world in their natural habitats. But much more than this, integral to this institution’s mission will be science, education and conservation of freshwater ecosystems.
Much like the original Cleveland Aquarium, the concept was initiated by a small group of people who love aquariums and the science behind them. The Cleveland Aquarium team includes local experts with more than a century of experience including Cleveland Metroparks Zoo veterinarian, Dr. Chris Bonar, colleagues, and local experts who worked at the original Cleveland Aquarium that closed in 1986.
The Board hopes to announce a site for the Aquarium in early 2010 and open the new aquarium in 2012.
